CIVITELLA IN VAL DI CHIANA
In 5’ you can drive to Civitella in Val di Chiana, a beautiful medieval village with its historical walls and its castle ruins. In the past it was a strategic place in central Italy; walking in its streets and squares always moves our spirit!
In 15’ you can drive to Arezzo, where you can discover the Renaissance thanks to Piero della Francesca, Cimabue and Vasari’s masterpieces. In the same time, you can feel yourself inside the set of “La Vita è Bella” by Roberto Benigni, prized with many Academy Awards in 1999. Moreover, you cannot loose the traditional “Giostra del Saracino”, a medieval knight game played every year on the 3rd Saturday of June and on the 1st Sunday of September. Monthly, every 1st weekend there is also a famous and popular Antique Trade Fair.
In 20’ you can drive to Lucignano, another nice medieval village, surrounded by its ancient walls. Piazza del Tribunale, Palazzo Comunale, St. Francis’s Church and Collegiata are wonderful places. In May they celebrate the new Spring with a colourful and flowerful fair called “Maggiolata”.
In 25’ you can drive to Castiglion Fiorentino, a popular ancient village with its tower and its medieval walls. Porta Fiorentina, Teatro Comunale, St.Francis’s Church, Vasari’s Arcades and the Archeological Museum are to be visited. Moreover, you cannot loose the romantic view on Val di Chio, between Valdichiana and Valtiberina!
In 30’ you can drive to Cortona , with its city centre around Piazza della Repubblica. We recommend to visit Palazzo Comunale, Museo Diocesano, Museo dell’Accademia Etrusca e della Città di Cortona (MAEC), Fortezza del Grifalco, Santuario di Santa Margherita and Eremo Francescano “Le Celle”.
In 45’ you can drive to Trasimeno Lake. It can be appreciated riding a bike all around it and visiting its three isles (Isola Minore, Isola Polvese and Isola Maggiore, the only one where people live).
In 40’ you can drive to Siena, famous for its square where the horse race called Palio is always run twice a year, on the 2nd of July and the 16th of August. You can walk in its streets and have a good aperitif, then you can visit Palazzo Pubblico, Torre del Mangia, the Cathedral, the Piccolomini’s Library, the Baptistry and the City Museum.
In 45’ you can drive either to Florence, the Renaissance main city, or Trasimeno Lake, a real natural paradise between Umbria and Tuscany. In Florence, you can have a walk in its historical centre visiting its Cathedral with Brunelleschi’s Dome and Giotto’s Towerbell and then going on to Palazzo della Signoria, Galleria degli Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, Giardino di Boboli and Galleria dell’Accademia.
From here you can also visit: Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano, S.Gimignano, Anghiari, La Verna, Camaldoli, Città della Pieve, Orvieto, Todi, Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia.
Podere La Doccia is also near horse-riding centres, golf courses, children’s adventure parks and spa centres like Rapolano Terme and Bagni San Filippo in the province of Siena.
